Catholic Social Teaching
At St Peter and St Paul Catholic Primary Academy, we are proud to instill in our children the principles of Catholic Social Teaching as part of our commitment to nurturing compassionate, responsible, and faith-filled individuals. Catholic Social Teaching is rooted in the Gospel values and the life of Jesus Christ, guiding us to live in a way that promotes justice, dignity, and love for one another.
The key principles of Catholic Social Teaching that underpin our school’s mission include:
- Human Dignity: Every person is made in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be treated with respect, fairness, and care. At our school, we celebrate the unique value of each individual.
- The Common Good: We teach children to think beyond themselves and work for the good of all, fostering a spirit of community, generosity, and shared responsibility.
- Solidarity: We stand together as one family, supporting others locally and globally. Through acts of kindness, charity, and outreach, we help children understand the importance of standing with those in need.
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable: Jesus calls us to care for those who are less fortunate. We encourage children to show compassion and take action to help those in need, whether within our school community or beyond.
- Distributive Justice: We teach children the importance of fairness in sharing the resources God has given us. Everyone has a right to what they need to live with dignity and flourish in society.
- Subsidiarity: Decisions should be made at the most appropriate and local level. We encourage children to take responsibility for their actions and make positive contributions to their communities.
- Peace: Inspired by Christ’s message of peace, we promote reconciliation, understanding, and harmony in our school community and beyond. Children are taught to be peacemakers in their relationships and to seek justice in the world around them.
- Care for Creation: We are stewards of God’s creation. Our school promotes care for our environment, encouraging children to appreciate and protect the natural world.
Through assemblies, daily prayer, our curriculum, and outreach projects, Catholic Social Teaching comes to life at our school. It inspires our children to live with faith in action, building a more just and loving world where everyone can flourish.
Together, we work to “act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8).
