British Values

At St Peter and St Paul Catholic Primary Academy, the fundamental British Values are closely connected to our Catholic faith and our school mission:

“With Jesus at the heart, we learn, love and serve.”

Our values of Love, Respect and Service call us to recognise the dignity of every person, listen to and value others, make responsible choices and use our gifts in service of the Common Good.

Through our Catholic ethos, curriculum and wider school life, we actively promote the fundamental British Values of:

- Democracy

  • - The Rule of Law
  • - Individual Liberty
  • - Mutual Respect
  • - Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs

    Democracy

We believe that every child should be known, heard, seen and loved. Pupils are encouraged to express their views, listen respectfully to others and take an active part in the life of our school.

Through pupil voice and opportunities for leadership and responsibility, children learn that their voice matters and that they can use it to make a positive contribution to their school and wider community.

This reflects our value of Service and the Catholic Social Teaching principles of Participation and the Common Good. We want our pupils to understand that democracy is not simply about having a voice, but also about listening to others and working together for the good of all.

    The Rule of Law

We teach our children that rules and laws help communities to be safe, fair and respectful places in which everyone can flourish.

Pupils learn to understand our school expectations, recognise the consequences of their choices and develop an understanding of right and wrong. As they grow, they are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own actions and to consider how their choices affect others.

Our value of Respect reminds us that rules and laws should protect the dignity, rights and wellbeing of every person.

    Individual Liberty

We encourage our pupils to become confident, independent young people who are able to make informed and responsible choices within a safe and supportive environment.

Children are encouraged to express their views, pursue their interests and talents, and recognise their own God-given gifts.

Our Catholic understanding of freedom also teaches us that liberty comes with responsibility. Our individual choices should not come at the expense of the dignity, safety or wellbeing of others. We encourage pupils to use their freedom and their gifts wisely, for their own flourishing and for the Common Good.

    Mutual Respect

Respect is one of our three core school values.

We believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and is therefore worthy of dignity, respect and love.

Children learn to listen to others, appreciate different perspectives, value difference, work collaboratively and treat others with kindness and fairness.

Our commitment that every child is known, heard, seen and loved helps us to create a community in which everyone is valued, everyone belongs and everyone is encouraged to flourish.

Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs

As a Catholic school, we are proud of our own faith and identity while teaching our pupils to encounter people of different faiths, beliefs, cultures and backgrounds with knowledge, understanding and respect.

Through Religious Education and the wider curriculum, children learn about other faiths and cultures and develop an appreciation of the diversity of modern Britain and the wider world.

Following the example of Jesus, we teach our pupils to welcome others, listen with respect, challenge prejudice and recognise the dignity of every human person.

    Living British Values

At St Peter and St Paul, British Values are not simply words on a page. They are experienced through our curriculum, relationships and the everyday life of our school.

Through Love, we learn to recognise, welcome and care for others.

Through Respect, we recognise the dignity, rights, beliefs and voices of others.

Through Service, we understand our responsibility to use our voices, choices and gifts to help others and contribute to the Common Good.

In this way, we aim to prepare our pupils to become confident, compassionate and responsible citizens who are able to participate fully in life in modern Britain, while remaining firmly rooted in their Catholic faith.

With Jesus at the heart, we learn, love and serve.
