Virtues
‘Virtues to Live By’ is a resource which we follow at St Peter and St Paul Catholic Primary Academy. This resource seeks to support our children’s virtue literacy and growth.
‘Virtues to Live By’ enables us all to explore each virtue over a three or four-week period (two per half term) to improve the school community’s virtue literacy and to deepen understanding and appreciation of the essential role that virtues play in the education of the whole person towards human flourishing. The virtues chosen are common across cultures and faiths but are sourced from the Christian tradition
The school focuses on a virtue every three or four weeks. The children think about what the virtue means, how we can see it in others and how we can manifest it in ourselves.
We incorporate the virtues into our school life by:
- updating our 'Virtues to Live By' display in the foyer every term to show signs of living the virtue and virtue statement
- awarding certificates each week in our virtues assembly celebrating those who have shown the current 'Virtue to Live By'
- displaying a picture of the children in each class who have received the virtues certificate on the foyer display
- enjoying 'Circle Times' linked to the monthly 'Virtue to Live By'
- integrating the virtues into weekly RE planning where possible
The chosen virtues are linked to the academic year and are on a two-year cycle. We are currently following cycle 1:
