RHE
RHE at St Peter and St Paul Catholic Primary Academy
At St Peter and St Paul, we are committed to supporting the emotional, physical, and spiritual development of every child. To achieve this, we use the Ten:Ten "Life to the Full" programme as our core scheme of work for Relationships and Health Education (RHE).
Rooted in our school's ethos, the Ten:Ten 'Life to the Full' programme is an award-winning resource approved by the Diocese and fully compliant with the Department for Education’s statutory guidance. The name is taken from the Scripture passage, "I have come that they might have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10). The programme is much more than a single lesson series; it is a creative, whole-school approach containing interactive video content, story-based activities, and engaging teaching tools that equip our children for life's journey.
Intent
Our intent is to deliver an ambitious, values-led RHE curriculum that treats human wholeness as an integral element to the physical, spiritual, emotional, moral, social, and intellectual development of all pupils. We want our children to develop a deep understanding of the unique dignity of the human person as being created and loved by God. Through a positive framework of Christian ideals, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, resilience, and skills they need to navigate relationships, understand their physical and emotional changes (including puberty and personal safety), make safe and informed choices, and contribute positively to their families and the wider community.
Implementation
The scheme is delivered using a spiral curriculum, meaning that core themes are revisited at an age-appropriate stage as children grow through the primary years. The learning is divided into three core modules:
-
Module 1: Created and Loved by God – Explores the individual, teaching children about self-worth, emotional well-being, and being made in the image and likeness of God.
-
Module 2: Created to Love Others – Focuses on family, friendships, community, and practical strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe (including topics like the NSPCC PANTS rules).
-
Module 3: Created to Live in Community – Explores the child's relationship with the wider world, focusing on the Common Good, service, and understanding society.
Lessons are brought to life through a combination of creative storytelling, interactive media, classroom discussions, and guided reflection. Learning is evidenced and consolidated through class big books and individual RHE exercise books.
Impact
The impact of our RHE curriculum is reflected in the positive attitudes, choices, and behaviour of our pupils as they move through the school and prepare for adult life. Through this programme, we ensure that our children:
-
Build strong, respectful relationships with peers, family members, and the wider community.
-
Develop excellent self-efficacy and resilience, knowing how to manage their emotions and where to seek support when faced with challenges or risks.
-
Understand the importance of personal health and safety, possessing the knowledge to make sensible choices regarding their well-being and online safety.
-
Embrace the dignity of themselves and others, understanding their worth as valued individuals.
